This is a good quality Humidor lidded box originally for cigars, in the Art Deco style, by the French company Silver Match, dating to circa 1960-1970.

This box would also make a beautiful and very stylish Jewelry box for the dressing table.

The box has a rectangular shape with a hinged lid. The outer surfaces have a high gloss black finish with a type of plastic veneer over a wood frame. The top is decorated in a typical distinctive geometric Art Deco style, having simulated birds-eye maple detail between two plum coloured stripes. The interior is made of natural red cedar wood with a movable compartment divider. The inside lid is fitted with a brass hygrometer and a humidifier which are also removable if required. The base is of felt with four foot pads.

The box is very well made and in great condition. It has a variety of uses;  not just as it was originally intended as a cigar humidor but also as a jewelry or trinkets box on the desk or dressing table.

The piece carries an oval metal label on the front with the "Silver Match" logo.
