This is a hand painted Chinese export bowl from the late 18th century, Qing dynasty, late Qianlong period, 1736-1795. We date this piece to circa 1785.
The bowl is well potted with vertically fluted sides and a wavy rim, on a mid height foot, with a well hand cut foot rim.
This porcelain slop bowl is decorated with a hand painted Chinese river side scene with pagodas, fishing vessels, trees and two people, all decorated in different shades of cobalt blue. The inside base and inside inner rim is also hand decorated in cobalt blue with hand gilded gold detail to the inner rim border pattern, rim edge and outer foot. This bowl would have been made in China for the European export market, the style of decoration being typical of that found on many English and other European manufacturers around this time such as Worcester, Miles Mason, Coalport, Spode etc.
The bowl is unmarked to the base. Overall a good example of a Chinese Blue and white bowl from the late 18th Century.
