This is an antique Chinese hand potted Red Clay YIXING Teapot and cover, fully marked and dating to the early 20th Century.
The Teapot and lid are hand-potted in an interesting compressed squat shape and made of Red Clay stoneware. The lid has a small cylindrical knob with an air hold in it. The teapot is hand decorated with a beige- yellow marbled decoration all around the outer body and also around the top of the lid. This decoration was done to simulate stone, wood grain or some other organic natural material. These red stoneware pots were produced in Yixing, in the Eastern province of Jiangsu and date back to the 15th Century Ming period, being very popular among scholars. The tea pot is marked to the base with a four- character potters or makers seal mark. The inner lid is also marked with a small impressed mark.
This is a very decorative and fairly rare piece.
