This is a good, early hand-painted English coffee can, from the late George-III period, of the late 18th Century, circa 1795, which we attribute to New Hall.
This hard paste coffee can is nominally straight sided with a plain loop handle, the body having sixteen vertical facets called the "Hamilton Flute"
The pattern is heavily hand gilded, with an upper border geometric design with dark brown enamel detail - all hand painted, with further gold rings to the upper rim, above the lower rim, the top inner rim and the outer handle. Similar cups with the Hamilton Flute are illustrated in Michael Berthoud's classic book; A Compendium of British Cups, pages 22 & 23.
This coffee can has no makers marks to the base.
