This is a good mid-19th century pewter half pint tankard or mug all fully stamped and with the makers name of James Yates
This tankard has a good shape with a flared skirt base, curved over top rim and a solid loop handle with a thumb rest to the top. James Yates worked in Birmingham from 1837 to 1891. In early years with or as proprietor of Yates. Birch & Spooner. Various markings are stamped around the top rim including:- James Yates, 1/2 Pint to the left of the handle, then quite a few impressed numbers and symbols going below and around the rim. The inner base also has a Crown mark with an X below it.
Overall a genuine half Pint antique pewter tankard with obvious interesting history.
