This is a rare, beautiful and very large Open Bowl made by Mason's Ironstone in the Peking Vase pattern, in the early 19th century, circa 1818. Very large Mason's bowls in this shape are very rare.
 
The bowl is circular with an everted wavy rim and raised on a good pedestal circular foot.
 
The body is vertically fluted with moulded decoration around and below the rim. This piece would not have had a lid. The bowl is decorated in the Peking Vase or Vase and Rock pattern which is illustrated on Page 105 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns" published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The pattern is mainly hand-painted with typical bold and striking enamels with much additional hand gilding and a scroll border around the inner rim. There are no makers marks to the base as was often the case but this piece is definitely made by Mason's.
 
This is a large, substantial and striking piece of Mason's Ironstone dating to circa 1820, possibly slightly earlier. it weighs about 2.5 Kg unpacked. This is a very decorative display piece in its own right and would make a good table centrepiece, but could equally be used as a general serving bowl, for punch or as a fruit bowl as per our images.

GoodWear consistent with age and use. Very little pattern and gilding wear from use. Some slight firing marks from the time of manufacture. NO Damage, NO Restoration.
