This is a rare and original '9 Spot' Dominoe game of 55 individual dominoes, coming complete with its jointed wooden box or case.
Dominoe sets are normally six-spot sets giving a total of 28 dominoes. This set is much rarer, having a full nine-spot set of 55 individual dominoes, making this classic strategy game much more interesting to play.
The dominoes are all individually handmade, with an upper half made of bone ( probably bovine) and a lower half made of a black material, probably ebonised wood, with the halves riveted together with a central metal rivet which allows the dominoe to spin. The dimensions of each dominoe are nominally; Measures: 4.5cm long, 2.2cm wide, 0.8cm deep (thickness) The case is well made of wood, possibly beach, jointed at either end and with a sliding lid. We consider this to be the original case to the game.
We date this game to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.
